The Andy Roberts Group (ARG) performs as a 4 to 6 piece group. Their music is jazz based with a nod towards progressive rock. Listeners will find the music to be melodic with harmonic depth. The musicians bring a high level of improvisation to the mix to create some very exciting performances. Original music and standards.
Their influences are transparent. Steely Dan, Weather Report, Yes, Stevie Wonder are among a few.
Bio: Keyboardist/composer Andy Roberts comes from a diverse musical background. Teenage years were spent practicing by day and playing in country/rock bands at VFW's & biker bars by night. Other memories include creating keyboard parts for Black Sabbath tunes in his brothers band, and listening to Oscar Peterson and Keith Emerson. Getting further inspired by the challenges of jazz, Roberts attended and graduated from Berklee College of Music, Boston Mass. He has since pursued a wide array of musical careers as a performer, arranger and music director. Even with all the musical diversity, Roberts has retained a single vision of his own music. Lyrical, enhanced with some self-made harmonic explorations and embellished with jazz/rock oriented improvisations. The Andy Roberts Group is made up of like-minded musicians who can musically "turn on a dime". They move from high energy burns to utter spaciousness and everywhere in-between at any given performance. Roberts released his first CD last year called "Under the Radar".

"Under The Radar" by Andy Roberts is a Progressive Rock album rooted heavily in Jazz. The arrangements are highly advanced, yet effectively retain listenability. The music on the CD has a great energy and the tracks clearly demonstrate the extremely high musicianship level of Andy and the other top-notch musicians on the CD. Both the male and female vocals complement the sound very well. You'll notice a constant lounge vibe throughout the twists and turns of these adventuresome songs. Highlights are the opener "There I Was," a high energy number with a lot going on and some cool changes. "Trance Dance" has a very creative arrangement and keeps you on your toes."King Ool" wraps it up nicely with some fine piano work and a fusion of ambient sounds. If you enjoy progressive rock or jazz/rock fusion, you will enjoy this one. -William and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer TeamCheck out Andy Roberts's music on RadioIndy.com with link to purchase and links to popular sites |
