Artist History

Ballistic Edna is Chicago's best pop alternative band, composed of a potent British/American cocktail of musicians. Their catchy, radio-friendly songs have been praised in Recording Magazine, Outburn, Future Music (UK) and Devil In The Woods. JAMES REILLY- Guitar, bass, backing vocals, percussion. The band's main songwriter, James formed and wrote for punk/pop groups in London and Chicago, including Soul Intention, Hatful, punk notables The Geezers, and Gertrude. Gertrude won the Miller Lite Chicago Battle Of The Bands contest in 2000. In London James performed with Steve Marriott and Kim Wendells and produced That's The Mama's debut CD. His song "You're The Man" was used by the Free Associates theatre company in its intro theme to its production "Big TV", and at the American Cancer Society's "Walk 'NRoll Chicago" benefit. A published BMI songwriter, James has written CD reviews for Factsheet Five, and Maximum Rock 'N Roll. FRAN GIAGKOU- Vocals, guitar, assorted percussion. Although from Greece, Fran's family moved around the globe as she grew up, exposing her to a vast assortment of musical styles. Along the way Fran picked up fluency on several instruments, and she has performed with symphonic and jazz orchestras on piano, clarinet and sax. Fran's pipes have graced recordings by 606 , and she has sung lead for Chicago bands Aquavit and ZTA VRQS. JACK JEROZAL- Drums, bongos, and congas, is a percussionist extraordinaire, equally at home playing a full kit or Middle Eastern percussions and wind chimes. Jack's muscular chops stem from considerable experience in diverse musical combos, including the Dynaflow, Taranzo and The Cannonball Express blues band, Australian singer T.J. Dennis (daughter of Australian comedian Kevin "Bloody" Wilson), and The New Summer Of Love. Jack is fluent on guitar and bass, and plays every instrument on his self-produced debut CD. PAUL TOPPING- Bass, guitar, and mandolin, hails from Georgia by way of South Carolina and Maryland. Paul slapped bass in the Georgia bands Illuminati, and The Problem before hitting the road with alternative country upstarts The Bayou Brothers. A good friend of the family of Mo Tucker (of The Velvet Underground), Paul has jammed with Mo in her kitchen and fixed her porch door. A tireless self-promoter, Paul has also jammed with Victor DeLorenzo of The Violent Femmes, and Penn and Teller. Click on the CD cover below to buy Ballistic Edna's CD Minefield Tapdance.

"The Jungle Or The Stars" by Ballistic Edna (Rock Artist from Illinois(IL))
POSTED BY: momof5pacs POSTED ON: 20 Jan 2010 07:10 PM

RadioIndy is pleased to present Ballistic Edna with a GrIndie Award for the CD "The Jungle Or The Stars "

Returning with “The Jungle or the Stars,” an 11-song collection of smart and catchy, guitar-driven alternative pop/rock, the Chicago-based quartet, Ballistic Edna, delivers another CD that succeeds as both a follow-up and as a stand-alone album. “What Was That” opens the album with a power-chord manifesto that features a big, Bangles-like chorus as their two female singers blend voices with an ease that’s extremely precise. Also recalling The Bangles, “Hallowed Ground” is a terrific rocker with a dead-on hook, while “Woman” thunders like a long-lost Heart out-take. Elsewhere, “Soulseeker” finds the band playing with Middle Eastern modalities without losing their fundamental rock ethos; experimentation not unlike the early-period of the group REM. Album closer, “Camera” in fact, takes the experimentation a step further, as the band explores an ambient mood that perhaps, suggests a new direction for the band. Kick back and enjoy their new CD, “The Jungle or the Stars” for straight-up, uncomplicated – Heartland-style Rock, as Ballistic Edna delivers the goods.
