This CD captures the fevered heart of tango. Pop this into your stereo and experience the longing of unrequited love, the ache of homesickness, the frustration of the difficulties of life, the building of desire...
For those new to tango this is an excellent introduction to tango canción. For those tangueros out there, Corazón al Sur has chosen songs sure to please. The delicate Gricel, with sparse piano supporting the honeyed voice of Claudio Ortega, is exquisite. The jazz influenced La Cumparsita throws the beat down in a way that insists on dancing. The delicate balance of guitar and piano floating in and out of the foreground in Uno is unforgettable. And the wonderful El Dia Que Me Quieras makes you believe that she will love him, today.
All three of the members of Corazón al Sur have had a lifelong interest in music. Claudio Ortega, a native of Buenos Aires, has been singing these melodies since boyhood. He is deeply inspired by the classic tango singer, Carlos Gardel. Stephanie Newsom expands the melodies with a fresh approach to classical tango on piano and accordion. Peter Newsom plays guitar and bass that range from exploring delicate conversation with the piano into full-out rocking tango fusion.
For the past few years this Pan-American trio has brightened milongas and clubs in the SF Bay Area with the intensity of their compelling emotional melodies.
"Their interpretation of these classic jewels of the tango milieu will bring delight and open your heart."
Come listen and see if you agree.

"Del Norte Al Sur" by Corazon al Sur is a tango album that goes straight for the heart. These are highly emotional songs that deal with heartache and frustration, set to beautiful melodies and musical arrangements. The vocal performances and musicianship are simply phenomenal. Singer Claudio Ortego's expressive and soothing voice, coupled with Stephanie Newsom's classic Tango style, fuse to produce a very magical, dreamy mood. Throw in Peter Newsom's fine guitar and bass work and you have a beautiful combination of sounds. The production value is excellent and the songs are nothing short of radio-ready. Highlights include "Volver," which flaunts a gorgeous piano progression and great range in the vocals. "El Dia Que Me Quieras" features some lovely and intelligent guitar work, complimented nicely by delicate piano and a classic vocal melody. "Sur" is a bit mysterious, and is subtle and delicate in the arrangement. Fans of tango and world fusion will appreciate the sincerity and quality of this unforgettable assembly.-William and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team
