04-07-10 Ambient Collaboration with Anthony Bloxham
Via the wonder web and YouTube, Anthony Bloxham contacted me regarding a possible collaboration_ As someone who has no qualms with getting his feet wet and doing the fandango with complete strangers, I said "Yes!" Anthony Bloxham sent me a third backing track today_ This time around I thought that bass was the place and so attempted to create something ugly, like a slab of audio concrete_ It's probably the least beautiful thing I've ever done___ Enjoy!

Anthony Bloxham sent me a second backing track this afternoon_ This time around I listened to the track and made a little sketch in my mind of how I would approach this task_ This time around the backing track was a bit too dense and lacked any detail, so I decidd to take a more percussive stab at it_ Enjoy!

Anthony Bloxham sent me a backing track this afternoon which seemed to consist of a drone, some birdsong, ambient outdoor noises and thunderstorms_ Of course, I didn't know this until the piece had ended as I just strapped on my guitar, loaded his track into Sonar and pressed "Record"_ And so this is my attempt at doing something very live and improvised with a complete stranger_ I'll let you all decide whether or not it is a success or not! The Beginning of the End is Not the End
And finally some loose percussion is added to the improvised bass and lead guitar via the Korg Wavedrum_ And so a new track has been finished and you can see my creative process in full effect_ All you see on the screen was done in one take for each instrument with no editing - so this is as live as I can make it_

Hold the Candle Steady
This is a short instrumental piece that was recorded using a Korg Wavedrum for the rhythm track, a Roland VB-99 and ESP B206SM, and an Akai EWI USB wind controller powering KontaKt player using the Duduk sample_ It's my first recording attempt with the Akai EWI and I am not a wind player, so forgive my amateurish efforts_

This is an oldie that needed to be uploaded again_ But why the "Wall of Darren" effect? Has my rampant egomania taken complete control? No, the original clip was recorded in fairly low resolution and in this day of High Definition, I thought I'd be clever clever about how to re-present this old clip_ So you get more Darren for your money_ Huzzah! This track was made up on the spot and comes completely off the top of my head, including fluffed notes___ Enjoy!
