Brisbane, Australia-based singer-songwriter, Francesca de Valence has been picking up lots of steam. Her shimmering and accessible blend of pop, rock and folk has earned her praise and recognition across the globe. Francesca first came to the attention of the industry after being honoured with a Los Angeles Music Award in November 2008 for her debut EP "From The Outside In". Performing at the red carpet event at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood she walked away with the award for International Songwriter of the Year.
After a whirlwind tour around Australia, and to France and then back Los Angeles to play at the famed “Viper Room” in West Hollywood for the unofficial closing party of A&R Worldwide’s Musexpo 2009 Conference, Francesca came off the road to record her second EP “Oh it’s Simple” with Ricki Rae (Taxiride, Tania Doko) in Victoria in July/August 2009.
Francesca’s music ‘apprenticeship’ started with a childhood dedicated to classical music studies and later a degree in Jazz from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. But it was the influence of her song writing idols Carole King, Stevie Wonder and Neil Finn that put a teenage Francesca on the road to writing her own songs. Having performed with some of the world’s best including Michael Buble and Keith Urban, Francesca’s decision to make her mark on the music industry is one that she’s not looked back on.
Since the May 2008 release of "From The Outside In", Francesca has gathered a string of accolades including AC Song Of The Year in the 2008 Independent Singer Songwriter Awards, Runner Up in the ‘We Are Listening’ 2008 Singer/Songwriter Awards and was named Semi-Finalist in the 2008 UK Songwriting Contest.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Francesca de Valence with a GrIndie Award for the CD "From The Outside In" "From The Outside In" is an adult contemporary soft rock EP highlighted by the powerful and passionate voice of Francesca de Valence. Listening to Francesca makes you think of some of the greats such as Carole King and Sarah McLachlan. This Australian has a true distinction and a timeless quality to her voice. She delivers with so much passion, yet she retains an intimate quality in crafting her emotion-driven music. The arrangements behind her are solid and complimentary to her style. The recording quality of “From The Outside In” is quite good; Francesca's vocals are laid down and mixed beautifully, the instrumentation is crystal clear, and the overall sound is dynamite. Highlights include "Breathe," which has a wonderful arrangement and a great variance in the delivery of the vocals. "My Somebody To Love" is a powerful and catchy song and has all the makings of a single. "Jealousy" has a bit of a country vibe to it, some nice changes and features, and another strong vocal performance. If you enjoy powerful, emotion-driven female singer/songwriters and adult contemporary, you will love Francesca de Valence. -William |
