Artist History

Bios for the band:

Dales Hayes, Sr., lead guitar, vocal

Dale Hayes was born in Sioux City, Iowa. His early influences were Jimi Hendrix, John McLaughlin, Allan Holdsworth, and Mark Knopfler. Dale plays exclusively Strats and G&L Legacy guitars. Dale lives in Lincoln, Nebraska, with his wife, Deb. He has 2 sons residing in Los Angeles and Chicago. Dale's performing credits include The Emotions, Keith Henderson, Robert Cray, Son Seals, Luther Allison, T-Connection, Chuck Berry, and Tommy Bolin. He's opened for Chuck Mangione, REO Speedwagon, Jefferson Starship, 1994, Baby, Smoke Ring, 5 Man Electrical Band, Lighthouse, Curtis Blow, and GQ. Some of the local bands he's played with include D Funk, The Pheromones, Bossphilly, Gigglebox, Incognito, Savoir Faire, Thunderbird, Whale, and Midnight Sun. Garfan is Dale's current musical outlet for his original music. An aggressive combination of styles creates a distinctive type of guitar rock. Garfan has an emotional as well as an intellectual aspect. Dale says, "Garfan is guitar music for the underdog, the working class."

Phil Woodmancy, bass guitar

Phil started playing bass at the tender age of thirteen, which is also when he began his performance career. He has played around the Midwest for over 20 years with bands like Borderline, Mother Thug, and State of Shock. His goal in life is to be 80 years old and preparing for his next gig. That's Rock & Roll!

Kaitie "K" Preston, lead vocals

The youngest member of Garfan, K first got a taste for singing on stage in her high school's concert and madrigal choirs. A graduate of Raymond Central, K brings the songs to life with a powerful and emotive voice. Her taste in music is eclectic, varying from big band to Pat Benatar, from opera to Breaking Benjamin!

Eric Lee, drums

Eric started playing drums on his own at age 13. He took his entire savings account and bought a small kit. Eric's early musical influences included the Allman Brothers, ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kansas, Steve Miller, and Yes. He started playing with cover bands around Lincoln, NE, when he was fifteen and played steadily for 20 years, playing in most of the clubs in town, many of which are no longer standing! Eric has played with a few of Dale's cover bands, and was excited to get the call to participate in Garfan. Eric says, "There's a lot of variety in the music, and it appeals to a wide range of people." Eric's current musical tastes include The Clumsy Lovers, R&B and funk, and anything Zydeco or Cajun, especially Wayne Toups.

Jeff S. Gans, rhythm guitar

Jeff has ten years experience playing guitar. He has played with a few local bands, most notably Rumor Has It. He graduated from Lincoln Southeast High School. He plays Ibanez, Gibson, and Fender guitars. His favorite color is black.

"Family Affair" by Garfan (Rock Artist from Nebraska(NE))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Garfan with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Family Affair"

Garfan’s "Family Affair" is a high energy alternative rock album highlighted with the impressive female vocals of Katie Preston. This album is a nice throwback for those who remember when rock & roll meant something. The clean production on this album works well for this genre, and allows the driving rhythm section, which makes your head nod and foot tap, cut through the mix. The songs on “Family Affair” all have a great rock feel and are carried by catchy lyrics you’ll be singing along to in no time. The heavy drum pattern and melodic guitar work on "Dwell" is reminiscent of such female fronted rock bands as Fleetwood Mac and Jefferson Airplane. "Had to Die" takes a much different approach than most of the rest of the album, with a heavy Rage Against the Machine kind of guitar riff and soulful lyrics. Overall this is a great effort from an up-and-coming band, especially for fans of bands such as Fleetwood Mac, Blind Melon and newer alternative rock bands such as Flyleaf.-Ross
