Jenuine J.A. Artist Bio
Less than a minute into a conversation with artist/writer Jenuine J.A. (aka Jen-J) one thing becomes abundantly clear. "He is not a hustler who knows how to MC, but rather an MC who knows how to hustle". From early on it became clear to him that no matter what the game, the "powers that be" were not willing to let him play.
Realizing it was better to take the back door than a back seat J.A. bid his time as a Ghost Writer. It was during those years he not only earned respect within the industry as a prolific writer, but also gained numerous fans as MC. It has been noted that many label A&R Directors came away from studio sessions with their artist raving about J.A., saying "his general conversations play like an album". After playing some material that he had created as a member of the now defunct group UrbanANGEL, it was strongly suggested by one high ranking label executive that J.A. focus on writing and recording some solo material.
After cutting some "dead weight" and severing ties with those who only had an interest in keeping him in the background, he went right to work. Motivated by those (including some family and close friends) who openly doubted he could do it alone, J.A. pumped out music at a feverish pace.
The results are a collection of strong material that captures the essence of a man surviving in a world where criminals do more for the inner city that the politicians elected to serve them. J.A.'s music is the voice of those seldom heard and frequently ignored. He paints a picture of hope for those doubted and forced to "hustle to prove they belong". A story he knows all too well.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Jenuine J.A. with a GrIndie Award for the CD "The Burden of Proof"
Jenuine J.A.’s latest rap record “The Burden of Proof” is a great throwback to the early sounds of that genre. Jenuine isn’t exactly a hip-hop artist as his songs rely more on his lyrics and the instrumentation than just beats. The opening track, “Dyin’ to Floss” says it all, as you can hear how Jenuine wants his words to be heard and not lost under a sea of electronic drums. His struggle to be heard is evident throughout the disc as he lets listeners in on his personal hurdles in becoming a successful rap star. Just listen to “What’s Your Plan?” and you will feel what he has gone through. The title of “The (Lost) Art of Storytellin’” is a truthful statement about where most rap songs are at today. They rely more on abusive lyrics, instead of just telling a story. If you want to hear rap music the way it should be done, you won’t be disappointed when you hear “The Burden of Proof.” -Shaun H. and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team |
