Thirty years ago, producer Darryl Schwartz had the vision to combine a video story with rock music, which became the first concept music video. With his friend, Mike Lavin, they searched for musicians to help them realize their dream. A young, innovative guitarist and singer, Dennis Alexander, from Phoenix, AZ, had studio experience with creativity and a new sound. Keyboard wizard John Cammelot, from Chicago, IL, used the latest technology to add new sounds and textures. Powerhouse drummer, Tom “Ozzie” Osfar, from Minneapolis MN, brought the drive and complex rhythm to complete the band. The band’s theme of music being the universal language to promote peace and harmony against a troubled world is still valid today. * Shoot Notes * Not Bullets * was the battle cry of SQUADRON. Even though John and Ozzie had worked together, when they played with Dennis it was like magic. They spent six months creating and recording the music for the video, which they filmed in one session. The project was years ahead of its time and never got national exposure. But now it’s here. |

"The Best of Mr. Tune" is a refreshing collection of 80's rock tracks from a variety of John Cammelot's bands including Squadron, Flyer, and Mandel Machine. The bands are tight and the musicianship on the CD is tremendous, especially John's keyboard and piano work and the electric guitar work. John's vocals are very effective in this rock genre, and are filled on a number of tracks with rich harmonies. "Enjoy" is one of our favorite tracks, with its excellent hook and harmony-filled chorus. "Song On a Breeze' is an impressive instrumental number that features a very cool synthesizer intro into a beautiful piano piece that is filled with interesting synthesizer sounds. "Don't Let the Blues" effectively takes on a more bluesy, soulful tone, and shows the versatility of John's vocals. The musicianship on "Jive" blew us away. Any fan of 80s rock bands such as Styx or the Eagles should check out this collection from John's bands. -RadioIndy Reviewer TeamCheck out John Cammelot's music on RadioIndy.com with link to purchase and links to popular sites |
