Kathy Boyd & Phoenix Rising hit the music scene hard and fast and have not slowed down one bit over the years. . . . in fact, they continually pick up speed!
With 3 successful CD's receiving international airplay, this group of songwriters is catching the ear of the listening audience and in late 2008 had not one but TWO members nominated for Roots Music Association Bluegrass Songwriter of the Year (member Dennis Nelson currently carries the title as winner of this category).
This group is all about the stories, and stories are what you get with their original material, culled from their individual and collective observations of life. Whether it's the high mournful old-country sound of Dennis Nelson, the storytelling baritone of Tom Tower, the vocal and instrumental virtuosity of Tim Crosby or the high energy sincerity of Kathy Boyd herself, this band offers something for everyone.
Kathy Boyd & Phoenix Rising offers a sound that is clean, hard driving and uniquely their own. Specializing in festivals, weddings, conventions, private parties and family oriented events, Phoenix Rising aims to provide the sound you are looking for and works hard to provide "extras" to make your event unforgettable!
As they continue to travel more and have the opportunity to spread their stories and songs throughout the country, Kathy Boyd & Phoenix Rising is catching the hearts and the minds of audiences everywhere.

"Walk Humbly" is the most recent album from Kathy Boyd & Phoenix Rising. It is a Christian music album that professes faith and love through the medium of bluegrass music. "Cast The First Stone" has a pleasantly rambling backwoods sound to it with crystal clear and spiritually inspiring lyrics. "I Ain't Afraid To Die" is a playful and swiftly paced bluegrass number with a message that if one has faith, death will no longer be a fear. "Faith Hope Bluegrass Music" is the song that best projects what this band is about, in a lively song that relies just on the strings of a guitar and mandolin with wonderful vocals/harmonies. This album is a collection of beautiful sounding traditional bluegrass songs that stand up on their own with the ever-present addition of a loving Christian message. If Christian music and bluegrass are two things you enjoy, then "Walk Humbly" is an album that needs to be in your collection immediately.

What a thrill and honor to be on the bill with our friends Roundhouse and Bill Jolliff for the Oregon Bluegrass Association Willamette Valley Gospel Show! Hosted by Ken and Jan Cartwright, the SOLD OUT show was a reminder of why we love the music and those who are drawn to it. It was a beautiful, warm evening, and it was fun to watch the crowd "rotate" as the overflow stood on the sidewalk outside listening to the show live on KENC radio and watching through the windows. The true highlight of the evening was the debut of Anna Jolliff. Watch this girl, she'll be going places! Approximately $600 was raised for the OBA. . . . thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this happen. To complete the evening the band gathered for a round of . . . . . what else. . . . rhubarb pie!
