Artist History

EarthTones II weaves a new spirit, a new sound, a new resonance that touches the heart and the mind, reminding us that our creativity, our diversity, our connection to each other combine to offer us new hopes, new dreams, new possibilities – together.

It has been an honor to be a part of creating EarthTones II, as I am merely a piece of the puzzle.  This creation has meant bringing together 14 people to blend influences from 8 cultures into a uniquely inspired and cohesive sound from what I believe is a unified-world sound.

EarthTones II is a sincere interpretation of unique cultures brought together in a way ~ through music.

Our cultures, when played out together, express a beautifully harmonious human experience which has astounded me—even as the writing had only begun.  From the very beginning of this journey I have learned how attuned we are when we blend together the sounds of our souls. Even as our cultures seem varied, it is in that cultural creativity and diversity and our unique traditions and celebrations that we can now hear the oneness of our human experience.

I believe this CD is a natural extension of my first publicly released CD, EarthTones which I debuted in 1997 as my masters thesis. Both albums share a spontaneous and organic expression of nature.  I love that they convey actual experiences of places on earth and people everywhere seem to become conscious of those same sensations I had in turning those moments into music.

I hope you will share this musical celebration with others and help show how beautifully we influence each other when we truly listen

Take a musical journey with Pamela Weng and her beautiful New Age album, “Earth Tones.” Weng does a splendid job composing these well written songs as you will take a magical expedition with songs that breathe genres ranging from Jazz to Classical. As you hear each track, a sense of hypnotic tranquility opens up and soothes you mind and body. Opening up the CD, “Caribbean Blue,” has a nice free flowing Jazz groove that takes you away to a warm tropical place. The song, “Seafoam,” has a lush musical tonality as the cascading sounds of the piano meld with the sounds of the gently rolling ocean waves creating a sense of calm and quietness. The delightful Spanish guitar on the song, “Spanish Moss,” weaves a harmonious melody while the tender piano performs with a dynamic balance. If you are looking for excellent music with an ambient sense of peace and serenity, then the superb album, "Earth Tones,” is just the kind of album you need.

“EarthTones II” is an inspiring easy listening album from a talented group of musicians in Pamela Weng and Friends. Weng and her thirteen friends hail from eight distinct cultures, each member bringing a unique interpretation of music to the project. Collectively, they are a musically sound group with a gratuitous amount of musical chemistry, and they take the listener all around the world with the sounds they create. Musically, Weng and friends are in touch with nature and quite literally create the tones of the earth in the most eclectic of ways. Weng’s vocal appears on a couple of tracks, “They Slice The Air – poem,” which has a sort of speakeasy feel, and “Garden of Stars,” which is a beautiful and inspiring strong vocal performance. “EarthTones II” is well-produced and does justice to the hard work and enormous amount of creativity that went into the album. “Crescent Moon” introduces the album with a slow alternation between the piano and Native American flute backed by slow waves created by successive taps on a cymbal. “Orion the Hunter” is a great jazz number introduced with a piano solo then turns into an all-out jam with shakers, drums, flute, and guitar. “Outback Ochre” and “Outback” both incorporate the didgeridoo to make the listener one with Australian nature. “EarthTones II” is a great easy listening album with a fascinating blend of cultures and musicians from all around the world. Fans of inspiring easy listening and great musical collaboration, this one is a must.
