Artist History

A well known Portland daily newspaper columnist once described Ric Seaberg this way: "In a kinder and gentler world, he would have been a rock star." Ric was front man and lead vocalist for a band that was part of the unique Northwest Rock scene in late 60s & early 70s (that laid the foundation for what became grunge). The Morning Reign played in most large cities and small towns across the Northwest and opened for acts ranging from The Doors to The Guess Who, Buddy Miles to Peter and Gordon, Box Tops to Cream, the Animals to Spencer Davis Group. Morning Reign recorded at Capitol Records in Los Angeles. Ric's music is versatile ranging from blues to country ballads, biting humor to love songs, reggae to flat out rock 'n roll. There are few who can match his wordsmithing talents (for example, he once rhymed maharaj with garage in a song), his lyrics are distinctive and memorable. Ric's songs "Didn't Say I Love You Right" and "We Talk About Cars" both appear on NPR's "Car Talk" compilation cds, available at www.cartalk.com. "The Noise Pollution's Gone", from Ric's CD "Santa Monica", is the official song of Noise Free America. Learn more at www.noisefree.org Ric lives in Portland with his wife and step-son. All his recordings feature the guitar genius of Portland axe-god Tim Ellis. Ric's friendly and teeming website, http://www.ricseaberg.com, includes photos, music, and a weblog which features memoirs, stories, opinions and philosophy. The talents of Ric Seaberg really shine on his latest soft Rock album, “Freedom of Expression.” Seaberg, who is an accomplished musician, shows just what kind of sense of humor he has as he can take any topic and serve up some free spirited, fun loving lyrics using well crafted musical styles. The opener, “BRANGELIINA!” has a bright and bouncy beat and draws you in with those playful lyrics and Seabergs charming vocals. You can hear a taste of spiritual tonality on the song, “The God of Anti-Procrastination,” and then turn around to hear an enjoyable Rock song, “The Rockin’ Granny of Madison Street.” Seaberg also shows his softer side with a wonderful ballad, “I’ll Be Your Wife.” Another song, “Wide Load,” has a taste of sweet Country flavor as the toe tapping beat swirls around those amusing lyrics. If you are searching for a CD that has loads of entertaining lyrics set to a soft Rock style, then the excellent album, “Freedom of Expression” is just what you need to hear.

"A Thousand Songs" by Ric Seaberg (Rock Artist from Oregon(OR))
POSTED BY: momof5pacs POSTED ON: 09 Jul 2009 11:17 AM

RadioIndy is pleased to present Ric Seaberg with a GrIndie Award for the CD "A Thousand Songs"

Veteran songwriter Ric Seaberg takes listeners for a musical journey through his life and much more on “A Thousand Songs.” Overall, Seaberg’s songs are very reminiscent of late 70’s Jackson Browne, both in his vocal approach and melodies. The Browne influence can be heard throughout the disc, but is most recognizable on “The Queen of Hollywood High” and “In My Daddy’s Car.” There are also some faint hints of John Lennon and Warren Zevon scattered about as well. Seaberg also touches upon the subject of divorce in songs such as “Make it About Me” and “Smiley Emoticon.” His ability to write openly about his life experiences and feelings makes it very easy for any listener to attach themselves to these great songs. Any Jackson Browne or Brian Wilson fan will be spinning “A Thousand Songs” over and over again.
