SPUNK
Image: I started playing around with drums when I was ten.At fifteen I played my first gig and was also barred from the place when the owner found out about my age at the end of the night. At 17 I joined an original band called Rated R which later toured through out Canada and some parts of the U.S. By 21 i decided to stick around homebase,Montreal.Touring 4 years straight on the road took its toll......I needed a break from it all,I guess you can say to find myself once again. Summer of 98 I was approached by members of a band called Six Was Nine and jumped on the opportunity to work with players with the same taste, aspirations and dreams that I had. I grew up listening to bands like Cheaptrick,Ramones,Sex Pistols and the Clash,to my surprise those we're the same bands they we're into.Ive always loved the punk raw/ratty sound and way of life.....being true to yourself and seeing life like politics and governments for what it really is.We named the band Happy Go Lucky, played the venues in Montreal that hired indie acts and came in the Chom L'esprit finals with our song ending up on the Chom L'Esprit compilation cd. Unfortunately we disbanded due to members moving out of town becouse of job promotions and decided to go our own ways.Summer 2004 I was contacted by the organizer of the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal concerning Colin Hayes(Men At Work)that was coming to Montreal to play at the Metropolis and required a spunky solid energetic style of drummer,it was offered to me so of course I went for it.I was given the opportunity to play for Robert Smiegel (the dude that does the Triumph the Insult dog on Conan O'Brien show) here in Montreal.Being a no name myself compared to the players I was surrounded with I was given the best compliment concerning my playing and proffessonalism by giving me the opportunity to go on tour with them.It was like earning my ba in rock with these dudes! Im proud to say that im back once again writting songs with one of the most gifted writters ive ever encountered in this fine city of ours........Jamie Hebert, guitarist and writter that was with me in Happy Go Lucky formerly known as Six Was Nine.Writting music with Jamie has always been inspiring and just flowed out naturally...we both look at writting a song or music the same way......hence the word chemistry. I hope you take the time to listen to a few of our songs that will be on our upcoming debut album this summer and would love to hear some of your comments aswell in hopes that they'll inspire you in a positive way. Peace Joey
