Shaun Murphy began her musical career singing for R&B/Soul bands; however she quickly developed an insatiable taste for the blues. She has performed alongside such greats as Eric Clapton, Bob Seger, Bruce Hornsby, Glenn Frey and Joe Walsh, and The Moody Blues. Additionally, she has sung in studio with many well-known artists including Phil Collins, John Hiatt, Leon Russell, Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, Albert Hammond and many others.
While in between a couple of stints on the Broadway stage, doing Hair and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band On The Road. She was contacted by officials at the Motown, to sign up and do some recording, doubled with Meatloaf, it turns out, an old colleague from the start of her career, and turned out a slammin’ LP called Stoney And Meatloaf, long now obscure. She toured with this album with one of her favorite bands in Detroit, called Riot, formerly, Jake Wade And The Soul Searchers, a funk band personified, of which she also became a member for a short time with the fabulous Roz Ryan of ‘Amen’ fame. This band can also be heard doing the track for Beyonce’s CD, called Suga Mama.
After moving to LA, while working on Clapton's 'Behind The Sun' tour, she reignited her passion for singing the blues and, following another Bob Seger tour, she landed the coveted spot as a lead singer in the band, Little Feat. For the next 15 years she would go on to write, record, and tour, plus being on the same bills as many of her favorites; Koko Taylor, Etta James, Bobby Blue Bland, Buddy Guy, Charlie Musselwhite, BB King, Coco Montoya, Sherman Robertson, The Muddy Waters Tribute Band, with Pine Top Perkins, Hubert Sumlin, the list just goes on and on.
Now she has gone solo and formed "The Shaun Murphy Band". She had the following to say about her musical career: "I feel that I have come full circle back to my roots where I feel so much at home, and that's singing the blues. Let's face it, no one would be where they are without all their personal history, most of which I have no regrets. I have had so many wonderful people in my life, made so many friends, and have so much gratitude for all of the influences that have blessed and touched me along the way."

RadioIndy is pleased to present The Shaun Murphy Band with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Livin' the Blues "
Highly accomplished vocalist and by far no stranger to the music scene, Shaun Murphy releases her instinctive, powerhouse of fabulous Blues on the CD, “Livin’ The Blues.” Murphy’s vocals reach deep down inside capturing the true essence of these soulful and emotive Blues compositions. The passionate and burning vocals on “It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry” fuel the emotive lyrics with a rich and fervent style and grace. Not only does the title track, “Livin’ The Blues” move with a strong, tight beat, the vocals are well balanced and supported by a solid cast of musicians. Power chords and building beats give “Rock And Roll Everynight” a vibrant and energetic vibe while Murphy takes the helm with her tough, vocal attitude. Make no mistake; “Livin’ The Blues” packs a powerful punch of deep and soulful Blues steeped with Murphy’s vocals as formidable and commanding as the great singers Etta James or Koko Taylor. -Diane and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team |
