The Delta Flyers are an acoustic duo featuring original Blues music from the Mississippi Delta. Their performances are woven around the different styles of Blues that are to be found as you travel along Highway 61 from New Orleans all the way to Chicago. Some of the songs relate to places and occurrences that are significant to the history of the Blues, some are drawn from personal experience, some are just tall tales, but all are enjoyable. Stevie DuPree has joined forces with songwriter and guitarist, Travis Stephenson, to form the core of The Delta Flyers. The combination of DuPrees years of experience on the road and the consummate guitar work of Travis Stephenson, a true student of the Blues masters, resulted in a unit that delivers dynamic, memorable performances. Whether its gritty, Reso driven Blues from the Mississippi Delta or upbeat boogie straight out of the roadhouses of Texas and Louisiana, The Delta Flyers bring it every time. Whether relating a personal experience from his travels, or a tall tale, DuPree is a storyteller capable of taking the listener to the scene of the crime. Travis Stephenson brings his top-notch guitar playing to the mix in just the right proportions. The result is a unit that delivers dynamic, memorable performances. In 2007, DuPree delivered a solo album, Delta Flyer, which has received well earned reviews and airplay both in the United States and abroad. Delta Flyer features a stellar cast of supporting musicians from the Houston and Austin, Texas areas. Delta Flyer has recently been nominated for Best Blues Album as part of the 2009 Just Plain Folks Music Awards. In 2008, the first Delta Flyers album, On The Levee Road, was released. On The Levee Road was considered for nomination at the 2009 Blues Music Awards. Stevie DuPree and The Delta Flyers have represented the Houston Blues Society and Southeast Texas in both 2008 and 2009 at the International Blues Challenge held each year on Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee.

The Delta Flyers and their latest released album, “Sixteen Bars,” is jam packed with the some of the finest Blues music. This is the fifth album by this group and their music is bristling with entertaining energy. They take you on a journey of life with music that is not only powerful but has a dynamic vitality. Opening up the CD, “61 Highway Blues,” hooks you in with its top tapping beat and strong vocals. A splash of Country flavor can be heard on the song, “Mentone, Alabama,” as this is another tune with vibrant energy, catchy lyrics, and tight harmonies. “Dockery Farm,” has strong and powerful vocals and another song flavored with some down home Country groove. If you are looking for some Blues that is fun and energetic, then take a listen to the fantastic collection of songs on the superb album, “Sixteen Blues.”

Well, Well, Well ! I want to let Y'all know that the hoedown at the What Not Juke on Wednesday evening was a huge success. I want to thank all of the folks for braving the elements. Thanks to the Houston Blues Society and KPFT for your support, Miss Judy for the tambourine accompaniment, and special thanks to Herman White and family for welcoming us to their establishment. We also got to meet and spend some time with Texas Johnny Brown. Let's do it again.
Tonight, we'll be at Waldo's Coffee House, 1030 Heights Blvd. The show starts around 7:30 as we have a special guest opening for us.
Sunday afternoon, we'll be in Webster at the Crosseyed Seagull for the Jim Shortt Memorial Celebration along with an All Star line-up of musicians from Southeast Texas. If you're looking to re-stock your supply of BOOGIE, this is the place to be. Our set is tentatively from 3:00 to 3:45 PM.

Greetings, fellow Flyers and Flyerettes. We have a busy weekend ahead, so let me fill you in on the details. This evening, I'll be at Bistro Calais, 2811 Bammel Lane, 77098, to catch a performance by my favorite songstress, Tommie Lee Bradley. The show starts at 7:30 PM. This is a Cabaret setting and will be a great show. Come on down for Dinner. Who knows, I may even sit in for a song or two. Tomorrow evening, The Delta Flyers will be at Masone's in Cypress, Texas. Masone's is located at Hwy 290 and Fry Road on the south side of 290, behind the CVC store. The address is 26281 NW Frwy, 77429, and the phone number there is 281-758-0068, in case you get lost. This is the official Grand Opening and will also be a benefit for Travis' parents, Steve and Beth Stephenson, who were severely injured in a motorcycle accident earlier this year. We will be playing an early show from 5 until 7 PM. Sunday afternoon at 2 PM, Tommie Lee and I will be guests of the Blueshound and Baby Girl on "Howlin' The Blues", at KPFT Radio 90.1, in the lovely Montrose. We'll be there to let everyone know about a Memorial Celebration for the late Jim Shortt, being held at the Cockeyed Seagull in Webster, Texas on Sunday, August 16. Please try to tune in. The Blueshound always spins Just Right Blues, and I'm told that Tommie Lee and I will be performing a new song written for Jim Shortt. I guess I'd better get busy on that. We hope to see Y'all out and about.

"On The Levee Road" by The Delta Flyers is a pleasurable assembly of genuine acoustic blues tunes. The captivating, hook-laden musicianship and hearty vocal performances steal the show on this record. What's more, the prolific story-telling lyricism delivered by songwriter Stevie DuPree brings each of these tracks to life. The title track, "On The Levee Road," illuminates the controlled, passionate vocal performances that set this CD apart, while flaunting some nice harmonica solos. "Railroad Bill" assumes a more upbeat, energetic vibe, and exhibits a memorable chorus. Moreover, "Dancin' with the Devil" stands out as edgy and takes on a more electric sound. All in all, "On The Levee Road" is a delightful musical experience that will have any fan of blues wanting more.

A totally terrific CD from Stevie DuPree, Delta Flyer captures the diversity of his heritage. The recording quality is crystal clear, the musicianship is impressive, and the songwriting provides memorable tracks. Harder Than A Fat Man (live) has an awesome story line, great hooks, with catchy lyrics and licks. Steady Thinkin brings along wonderful up-beat rocking blues, and Stevie is no doubt gonna get the girl in this tune. Excellent harmonies are presented on When The Deal Goes Down. Every Monkey Woman has a wonderful groove; it is cute and a terrific dancing tune. An exceptional musical number has to be Queen Bee; alive and buzzing with piano and guitar solos. Our two picks: Please Think Of Me is a sensual saxophone-laced duet, and the toe-tapping Driving Rain with delicious fiddle in which Stevie shows his bluegrass roots. If you enjoy rockin' blues, you will delight in this CD. Pick up a copy today!
