If you are looking for authentic toe-tapping music from the deep south, Stevie DuPree delivers the goods, from Blues to Bluegrass. Hailing from Houston, Texas, DuPree’s musical career first took roots in the fertile fields of San Francisco in the 1960’s. Throughout the 60’s, DuPree played in local bands in the Bay Area and started honing his singing and songwriting skills. In 1972, DuPree returned to Texas and performed his original Folk and Blues compositions in Texas and the surrounding states through the mid 80’s. His experiences in Louisiana are still reflected in his work today. In 1985, DuPree left the performing arena to concentrate on Songwriting. 2003 saw Stevie DuPree return to the music scene with his songwriting partner from the 70’s. With fresh material in hand and a good backing band, Stevie DuPree and The Dudes hit the streets of Houston and went to work. Two CD’s were released, “Nothing But The Truth” and “Soulbilly Music – Volume One”. Songs from these CD’s continue to receive airplay on internet and ground based radio stations worldwide. A totally terrific CD from Stevie DuPree, Delta Flyer captures the diversity of his heritage. The recording quality is crystal clear, the musicianship is impressive, and the songwriting provides memorable tracks. Harder Than A Fat Man (live) has an awesome story line, great hooks, with catchy lyrics and licks. Steady Thinkin brings along wonderful up-beat rocking blues, and Stevie is no doubt gonna get the girl in this tune. Excellent harmonies are presented on When The Deal Goes Down. Every Monkey Woman has a wonderful groove; it is cute and a terrific dancing tune. An exceptional musical number has to be Queen Bee; alive and buzzing with piano and guitar solos. Our two picks: Please Think Of Me is a sensual saxophone-laced duet, and the toe-tapping Driving Rain with delicious fiddle in which Stevie shows his bluegrass roots. If you enjoy rockin' blues, you will delight in this CD.
