Smug

Artist History
SMUG kicks *#! Somewhere between a well-aged velvety cabernet and a sledgehammer to your face, this L.A. trio offers a welcome alternative to the corporate shlop heard on the radio. Comprised of touring and session veterans Bret Helm (bass/vocals), Rick Musallam (guitar/vocals) and Sean Daniel (drums), SMUG delivers well crafted songs with a rocking sound that is both hard and introspective. At times they sound like it would be difficult to find better musicians anywhere, other times they sound like a band of 14 year olds ready to fall apart. Either way, this trio will fill you up.

Review of "Freshly Stained" by Xavier P. for RadioIndy
POSTED BY: xavierpersad POSTED ON: 07 Jul 2007 06:21 AM
“Freshly Stained” by the in-your-face rock band dubbed SMUG is a diverse collection of fresh rock tunes. Ranging in sound from hyper-rock (“3 Days 6 States 1200 Miles”) all the way to hypnotic ballads (“Doubtful”), this CD shows off SMUG’s arsenal of musical diversity. Lyrically, SMUG challenges the status quo. “Shoulda Wrote a Ballad” pin-points this band’s rebellion against the ‘typical’ love songs that dominate the music scene, declaring “another dumb love song won’t change the world.” Moreover, the vocals on “Freshly Stained” are filled with excitement and passion. Polished with precision production, this CD successfully captures the high-energy personality of the band! Lovers of both adult and alternative rock will find “Freshly Stained” refreshingly enjoyable!
