My personal definition of the word “Irie” is defined as a call to worship and/or a feeling of no other. Both are synoptic to my point of view and unrelated to the stereotypic usage of this slang word for getting “blazed” or “lifted.” Irie is a song about the inevitable confrontation between good spirit versus world in its simplest form that we children of God all face day in and night out. We all know that misery feeds on company and in everything, we all have a choice…Gossip, hearsay and wickedness (sus sus) will surely spread and when it comes to us, we have the power to kill it or to pass it. If we decide to pass it, we transmit these negative vibes to others thinking that it will relieve us of this encumbrance when in truth, it enhances its sedation. The seeds of positive vibrations flow and love will always conquer over evil no matter what fortification the devil constructs. Zac Poonen said, “It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness. The darker it is, the brighter the candle will shine.” It is easy to fall to the wayside when surrounded by negativity and begin to curse it, but Jah gave us the tools and everything then begins with us. We must shine our own inner light no matter the darkness but if we curse it, we become the darkness. To righteously and positively greet life no matter the negative opposition or force shows that we truly live and to truly live we need love in our hearts. What better way is there to live and bring people close to God than to shine the light from within and live the example?. Check out Matthew 6:28, Luke 21:34 & 1962’s book by William Barnett “Lilies in the field.” Also a track by the Wailing Souls called “Jah Jah” off their 1981 album release “Wailing” aka Face the Devil. |
