I wrote Blind Guides while I was deployed to Baghdad in January 2005. I backpacked my guitar and I was actually on duty while I wrote it. Shhh. Everyone has their own thoughts and opinions, though not all thoughts and opinions are their own. Piggy backing off of Angel, I found it suitable that Blind Guides follow it. There are those who are only out to confuse us and while a cookie tastes good, we must inspect the baker. Directly speaking of the Pharisees and Sanhedrin of classical antiquity, I am also addressing their evident continuity. At this time the Iraq elections were just getting started and promises were filling the air and news waves. I began strumming minor chords to portray what I was feeling towards world leaders both present and past. The poetry and thirst for justice and cause had but diminished throughout the ages by those who speak of righteousness and go through the motions while overtly or covertly, reaching for their own motive for personal gain and to fight down truth and rights by taking control unto themselves. Not just worldly control either; they are praetorians to the vexation of spirituality that offer more than just coin to Caesar. They offer their souls and the souls they attract to follow them to this corruption. This is the life of materialism, protocol religion (aka dogma), and systematic dependency and not spirituality. We cannot build our house on this sinking sand and depend on such “things.” When we let them be our pride and focus, we are living on the balcony without ever knowing the immense wonders of the spiritual palace. The world is selling and we are all buying, especially our youth. We are being sold our identities and just as a tree without roots will tumble at the first gust of a storm, so shall we when our hard times come. As we struggle with this battle we must open our hearts and not our eyes and forgive those who lead astray for Christ has already given us the victory. Like drops of water combining into a mass ocean, with Jah on our side in a one love we are Iron like Lions in Zion. Fellowship. Check out Isaiah 29:13 in conjunction with Mark 7:6, John 2:19, Matthew 23:13, Matthew 22:21, and of course Robert Marley’s Iron Lion Zion off of disc 2 of Songs of Freedom. |
