While working at an entertainment law firm, one of our young clients had just been nominated for an Academy Award. I thought wow, he’s really riding high on the world right now, and his dad is so proud of him, having seen him mature through his work on film. You could hear his dad just bursting with love and pride for his son, yet he was always concerned about him, afraid of his getting hurt. . . yet he knew he had to back off and let his son make his own mistakes, whatever they may be. So. . .the song is really about this young man and his dad.
