“Eugenics Movement: Culling Hip Hop” by Mr. Williams is a very expressive example of lyrical hip-hop and poetry fused together. Combining Andre 3000’s aptitude for situational hip-hop with Saul Williams’ solid mastership of poetic-rap this CD moves to break barriers and stereotypes and transcends the formula of today’s hip-hop. Even the beats, which could be compared to the jazzy synthesized creations of soul groups in the early 90s, are quick to tell the listener that this is not your usual brand of hip-hop. One of the most stand-out tracks is the jazzy “If I wanted To (Remix)” which makes a bold stand for nonconformity. Another of our favorites is the poignant “Please Don’t” as both its lyrical and vocal content express emotional pain. Fans of conscious hip-hop and gritty spoken word will quickly become fans of “Eugenics Movement: Culling Hip Hop”. -joelCheck out Mr. Williams (1/3 of The Formula)'s music on RadioIndy.com with link to purchase and links to popular sites |
