Late Summer Skies

Let the rain fall, let the thunder boom

Batten down the hatches in the living room

A late day storm came passing through

Then the sun came back and lit the sky before we knew

Far away in another world

There’s a different boy and another girl

But it’s all the same when it comes to this

There’s nothing better than a moonlit summer kiss

Sun going down melting out of the sky

As dusk gives way to the fireflies

There’s a yearning and burning

For the fourth of July

‘Neath late summer skies

When school let out we bust through those doors

Our brains were full we couldn’t take it anymore

We’d make a little bread and sneak some cigarettes

On a bank beneath the bridge is where we met

Now the old dirt road and those wildflowers

Are dying slowly by the hour

The summer folks are leaving town

Old shutters shut and some leaves are down (chorus)

Before we know we’ll be beneath the harvest moon

Summer fades in Autumn’s cool breeze
