Lawrence Leatherwood is a Seattle native who grew up in Jimi Hendrix’s neighborhood in Seattle’s Central District.  Influenced by the local alternative-funk-rock scene of the Seattle’s 90’s, this mature solo debut album from this singer songwriter will rock you, soothe you, groove you and move you with some deep and heavy NW funky soul.  Intricate layered guitars, dripping with blues interweave and carry you on waves of melodic soul rock.  Unique vocals and poignant lyrics help you into a state of mind that flows right past melancholy and into redemption.  Mantras that get at the roots of love, is what Lawrence Leatherwood’s debut effort, Leatherwood is all about.  The album is a special listen from beginning to end, so turn it up & let it seep in to you.

Lawrence founded ButtermilkRecords in 2001 & has produced dozens of diverse indie artist releases: House on a Hill, DJ Take, Gabriel Teodros, Go Like Hell, Miss Toni Hill, Amateur Boyfriend, Free Verse, Muckner, Mico De Noche, Leuko, Specs, The Lawn Mowers, & many others, and also has supported facilitating inner city youth recording projects and arts programs.

"Leatherwood" by Lawrence Leatherwood is a neo-soul, funk rock album brought to you by a talented singer/songwriter. The "Seattle Sound" is well represented in this piece of work. The songs are slightly ambient and psychedelic. Lawrence's voice is well-layered and drives the music. The arrangements are creative and have an uncanny uniqueness. You get a nice mix of funk and fuzz guitar with a modern/classic blend. The album also has great continuity. It is definitely one of those CDs you play all the way through. The band is tight and the album is well produced and well mixed. Highlights include "Vision of Love," which features a wicked guitar riff and a driving beat. "It Can Be" features a swaying rhythm and great layering in the arrangement. "Leave It" is perfect for any smoke filled room. If you enjoy Jimi Hendrix and Lenny Kravitz, you'll dig this memorable CD.
