The Lily Pond Orchestra

The Lily Pond Orchestra is Douglas J. P. Lee... that's it... everyone else is either trans-dimensional or silicon based...

Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts in February, 1953... I fell under the spell of music at a very early age - at 9 years old I wanted to join the Beatles... Played my guitar in many Rock and Roll bands during the 60's, 70's, 80's and wisely kept my day job...

As a very young boy I had a special place for science fiction movies specifically "Forbidden Planet".  It was hearing of that incredible sound track that truly set my course!  As I matured, the music of Charles Ives, Edgard Varese, Claude Debussy, Frank Zappa, and John Cage became my staples.  I taught myself electronics by building a synthesizer.  I began the project in the mid 70's and it's not done yet.. 'Tis the nature of the beast - it's a work in progress.  I am also mostly self taught in music composition, having only taken a brief moment of Harmony and Theory, finding my remedial keyboard skills problematic... God Bless sequencing programs!  By way of general information I've played guitar for over 40 years, electronic, acoustic, and lap steel.  My keyboard skills are rudimentary, as true independence of hands baffles me...

The Lily Pond Orchestra is more of an idea rather than a thing... It's named for a LOVELY spot in Massachusetts. There are no missing ships or unexplainable disappearances... just frogs and turtles, birds and squirrels and assorted other shy critters. It's place for contemplation... I compose, arrange, and do whatever else is necessary to get the sounds into a tangible form to share, and they never seem to come out as I had originally "heard" them...
