Artist History

Drew Pizzulo is an American born singer/songwriter who began writing songs at the age of 8 years old in the genres of Alternative, Blues, Country, Easy Listening, Jazz, Holiday, Pop, Religious, Rock, R&B and Techno. In college Drew added to his resume by joining "MDP", a short lived but popular cover song band at Hofstra University for two years of "Battle of the Bands". In addition, Pizzulo also made musical guest appearances on the popular Hofstra TV comedy show "TNL". The show helped to create his first music video “Dancing Alone”, which would later become a YouTube fan favorite.

As a solo artist, by the end of 2017 Pizzulo will have released 15 internatiional albums of original material. His Internet chart success includes well over a dozen #1 hits, along with several other Top 10 singles on Betarecords.com, Pittradio.com and Radioindy.com.

A former season 6 American Idol contestant, Drew has given hundreds of live performances of both original and cover material in the USA and international cruise lines. Since Pizzulo does not play an instrument, he chose to work with talented professional studio musicians Anderson Barbosa, Rick Barclay, Ed Kamenitzer & Donnie Klang in creating background arrangements for his original solo work.

    The Review:
Want a lesson to how to sing to the ladies? Listen to this CD and take notes. Drew Pizzulo has an amazing voice. His sound is similar to what you would hear on late night spanish televison stations as they bring out the hot looking heart throb to sing a ballod for the ladies who sat through an hour of poor comedy skits and tired interviews to get to the main event.

I noticed on iTunes that Drew was compared to Lionel Richie, Barry Manilow and Rob Thomas. He was listed as recmmended if you like Barry Manilow, John Denver and John Mayer on CD Baby. All those singers can belt out a heartfelt love song. He is also listed under the genres - Pop/Rock, Easy Listening, Adult Contemporary and Christian on CD Baby and Gospel and Pop at iTunes. This should give you an instant idea of what to expect when you listen to Drew's music.

I am not a huge fan of the Pop music genre but Drew works it with passion and intensity. He sounds comfortable with his sound and has enough experience making records to settled into a sound all his own. One look at Drew's Artist page (Here) reveals someone who has released a dozen self-titled CD's. This latest CD Once Upon a Song is crafted by a seasoned recording veteran at the peek of his career.

    Pacing:
Weaving music from one song to the next is an important feature when making an album. Having the right songs back to back to back help keep the listening audience more focused on the overall project. The art of pacing has started to become a lost art as music is listened to on small hand held devices. In many cases the playback is set to random or shuffle play. As a result chance creates pacing, not the studio. Since this is an album review I am reviewing the music, the pacing and the sound quality.

Drew Pizzulo has had years of experience making music. He also knows how to pace the album. The individual songs flow from one to the next with carefull consideration to the pacing from one song to the next. Music:
Creation  /   A Moment Can Change Everything  /   Nothing More to Say  /   Left Out  /   Am I?  /   I Need Love  /   Can't Stop  /   A Love Song  /   Sleep Together  /   Dancing Alone  /   Song from Hell  /   Catch-22  /   She's My Girl  /   Your Not Mine  /   In the Studio:
Drew's voice is amazing but his production is living in the late 80's. Drew's vocals are drenched in reverb to the point he sounds like any spanish male ballod singing vocalist you might hear on UniVison. Using reverb on vocals is a vital means to create a huge wall of sound. It is also used to cover up for a weak vocalist. Drew is not singing spanish ballads nor is he a poor vocalist so the producer should have recorded his voice to be front and center in the sound stage without all the effect. Only using vocal effects to enhance phrasing and add some width to his vocals. Drew's voice is good enough to stand on it's own without all the smaltzy effects.

As for the songs? I felt many of them had a pre-programmed feel to them. Kind of like great karaoke. I did not get a feeling that musicians beard their souls while playing. It was as if they were simply reading charts and tring to be prefect.

    Conclusion:
If you love a good ballod and a vocalist to deliver a perfect performance Drew Pizzulo is the answer. He sounds like an International super star who knows he has what it takes to own a listening audience. The recording was pristine and the delivery was spot on. My only issue was the studio used too much reverb in for the vocals.

This was a top drawer offering sang by a top notch singer. This CD rates 8.5 stars out of 10.

Drew Pizzulo- A Moment Can Change Everything

By Heather Savage  //  Music  //  Rating: 7 of 10 stars

Have ever wondered how talented some of the American Idol contestants were that didn’t make it to Hollywood? I understand it can be challenging for an American Idol Judge to make a quick decision within 30 seconds. New Jersey based artist/model Drew Pizzulo is a Season 6 contestant that didn’t make the grade, but since that time has given hundreds of live performances of both original and cover material in the USA and international cruise lines. As a solo artist, Pizzulo has released 10 international albums of original material. His Internet chart success includes well over a dozen #1 hits, along with several other Top 10 singles and he has been writing music since the age of 8.It’s truly amazing what Pizzulo has done over the years and on his latest release entitled “A Moment Can Change Everything”. I’ve never had an artist suck me in quite like this one did – refusing to let go and calling me back after it was complete. The music just flows like a river via an invigorating vocal front and an addictive pop, rock driven vibe that is comparable to a modern-day Barry Manilow or even Babyface.  There is also an undeniable Jazz-Pop quality to this CD as well that is painfully simple yet brilliantly crafted. The CD works its magic when you just let go and roll with the melodies. You never know what’s around the next corner as the CD touches a wide range of emotions. The music not so commercially viable due to the overall sound quality, but amazing witty and clever nonetheless. What I like most about the CD is Pizzulo’s’X-Factor. When he sings he has it – a undeniable passion play quality that will have many females sitting on the edge of their I-Pods. Oh did I mention Pizzulo is a professional model? Not every square inch is filled with a mundane vocal delivery under duress – but space that allows the CD to just breathe. Did I mention Pizzulo is a professional model?

Criticism: The overall sound quality is a bit fuzzy and somewhat foggy. The songs are amazing but the overall clarity of the catalogue has a lot to be desired. It simply doesn’t stack up when compared to other professional grade releases out there right now.

Favorite Track: Title track and ‘Dancing Alone”

“A Moment Can Change Everything” by Drew Pizzulo is an endearing album limited by nothing. It is painfully simple but brilliant in its delivery. I would imagine as time goes by we will hear more from this powerful artist from New Jersey. It’s a true statement that every now and then even American Idol can get it wrong.

"The Definitive Collection" Reviewed by RadioIndy.com!

Drew Pizzulo releases his latest CD, “The Definitive Collection,” comprised of his most requested easy listening hits. This collection of relaxed songs is a beautiful blend of love songs, Christian inspirations, and shows the diversity this singer has to offer. Pizzulo’s vocals gracefully project thoughtful lyrics which are accompanied by a solid support of quality musicians. His sweet and soothing voice caresses around the soft and expressive piano as heard on “Dancing Alone” and “Am I?” The spiritual lyrics of “He’s My God” will seep warmly into your soul. Flavored with a touch of R&B, “Nothing More to Say” moves with a slow, steady groove. Fans of Barry Manilow or John Denver will want to take a listen to the charming vocals of Drew Pizzulo and his wonderful album, “The Definitive Collection,” as it is a touching and tender array of memorable music.

  "Mainstream" Reviewed by RadioIndy.com!

“Mainstream” marks the twenty-second Christian adult contemporary release from singer/songwriter and former American Idol contestant Drew Pizzulo. Pizzulo brings his smooth soulful vocals to each song while the arrangements dabble in a variety of genres, including rock, easy listening, r&b, hip-hop, jazz and electronica. Seasoned musicians Anderson Barbosa, Rick Barclay, and Donnie Klang lent Pizzulo a hand in recording the arrangements and fully realizing the sound he had dreamt up for each track. As one might suspect, “Mainstream” is filled with poppy songs with catchy lyrics about love, faith, and dreaming. All of Pizzulo's recordings have been self-released, and “Mainstream” is no exception; with that being said, it sounds great and clean. “Sleep Together” is an electronica track literally about the girl of Pizzulo's dreams with an attention-grabbing opening and a great beat throughout. “Catch-22” is befitting for Pizzulo's twenty-second release and is a great jazzy piano track about not being in love. Fans of soulful adult contemporary vocals and backing arrangements that span a variety of genres, check out Drew Pizzulo.
