"What Am I Really" is a new age folk rock album brought to you by the poetic Bill East. The lyrics are the backbone of Bill's music, as he pries into the mind and tickles the ears of listeners. The arrangements and overall style are very upbeat, with a subtle blending of genres that make up a single innovative sound. Listeners will get their money's worth with this collection as Bill brings out an amazing 29 tracks. Great care was taken in the production of this album as well. Every track is crisp and each instrument sounds clean. The female harmony is a great addition to the sound, which listeners will hear on most of the tracks. The simple, yet enjoyable "Is There Anything, Appearing Anywhere" and the hypnotic "Is There A Separate Independent I Or Me" are definite highlights. "Sometimes There's Pleasure Sometimes There's Pain" wraps the album up nicely with a message that really hits home. For listeners in the mood for some 60's folk with a new age alternative feel wrapped around it, “What Am I Really” by Bill East should be checked out.

Is Anything Gained
POSTED BY: billeast POSTED ON: 03 Dec 2008 02:13 PM

Is it true that thoughts are arising spontaneously? What’s going to happen to me, myself and I? How can I escape the situation now, the intensity now, the boredom now, the fear now? How can I find a place to hide comfortably, to pull the covers over my head and go to sleep peacefully? How can I live happily ever after?

Where is the fairy tale life that I desire? Where is the fairy tale life that I fear of not getting? Is it only the false reference point, the false self-center, the false separate independent I me entity, individual, person, character that can have this fairy tale life? Is it only the false reference point, the false self-center, the false separate independent I me entity, individual, person, character that can live happily ever after?

Is this all false? Is this all a lie? Is anything gained? Is everything gained an illusion? Is this just one thought after another, just one image after another? Are all questions, personal problems, psychological suffering, doubts, desires, and fears, just imagination, just thought? Without thought, could questions, personal problems, psychological suffering, doubts, desires, and fears exist?

Who am I? Who’s thinking? Who’s thoughts are these? Who wants to survive? Who’s asking these questions? Who wants to escape? Who wants to hide comfortably, sleep peacefully, live happily ever after?

Are personal problems, psychological suffering, doubts, desires, and fears, based on the belief, on the assumption, that there’s a separate independent I me entity? Can I find such an entity? Does such an entity really exist? Is there such a thing as a separate independent I me entity, or is there just a belief in this thought, this concept, this mental image of a separate independent I me entity as what I am?

Right here right now who’s crying for things to be different then the way they are? Is there really any problem right here right now? Is there really anything happening that shouldn’t be happening?

Can I let all sensations, perceptions (thoughts, feelings, emotions, concepts, beliefs, ideas, images, objects, assumptions), appear and disappear without attaching my identity to them, without attaching any label to them? Am I any of these transit things, or is what I am what’s aware of these transient things?

Is the non-dual, one without a second, space-like awareness the source of all things, the potentiality and capacity for all things, because of which and within which, all things are arising?
