Fulton Read from Texas Austin

Artist History

After four years of recording, playing, promoting, even whoring themselves out, Fulton Read has turned its back on music business as usual and finally realized the Best Things in Life are FREE. They started to get it back in the day when they gave out their first EP in the summer of 2004 and encouraged fans to spread it.
Before long, Fulton Read was catching on, crowds were singing along and piano pop could do no wrong. With catchy, uplifting songs like "Hope You NeverGo" and "I'd Love to See You Live", people welcomed the good vibes. It took just a taste of the crowd's energy to awaken this sleeping giant. What soon erupted was their first full-length release, "How Rocks Become Mountains" that through independent promotion and support sold out 1,000 copies in just the Houston area. It was the fan response alone that allowed them to thrive- performing with national touring acts such as Circa Survive, Say Anything, Limbeck and the Format. A move on up to Texas' music capital-Austin, saw Fulton Read entertaining new faces; developing a regional presence, playing venues across Texas like Emo's, Antone's, Ridglea Theater and Fitzgerald's; and making new friends in the music industry.
With Austin producer Rory Allen Phillips (Impossibles, Recover, Young Love) behind the scenes, they made their first groundbreaking record, "Out of the Woods", a nod to their hometown The Woodlands, TX. The EP was picked up in regular rotation by 105.3 BOBFM in the Woodlands as well as receiving airplay from Austin's 101X, KTSW in San Marcos and several other college stations across TX.
Now based out of San Marcos, Fulton Read has been in forward motion ever since, having refined their lineup to the jamming/writing/producing duo of Stephen Duffy and Anthony Erickson. They have assembled a top-notch cast of Austin musicians to back them up including a horn section and back-up singers creating a sonically diverse live show to complement their catchy songs.
With their new EP, "Indivisualize", their catalog gets a big boost in diversity with funky jazz breakdowns, improv jams and trippy segues, all next to a piano pop hook. They took a page from the book of hip-hop enlisting multiple producers- CJ Eiriksson (Matchbox Twenty, Jack's Mannequin), Will Hoffman (Flyleaf, Sounds Under Radio) and old friend Rory Phillips- to make an adventurous EP, that best of all will be released for FREE! And in the spirit of the download era, Fulton Read is once again encouraging fans to spread this release like wildfire, hopefully make it out to some shows, maybe buy a t-shirt or two but most importantly to "indivisualize" themselves- see who you want to be and be it.
Besides their new found FREEdom, Fulton Read has learned well from their Texas roots- GO BIG or GO HOME- be it the live orchestra collaboration they pulled off while still in high school, their self-run Texas tour, or singer/songwriter Anthony Erickson making the "irresponsible" move by selling his newly inherited 2007 Saturn Ion to make this record and set the wheels in motion (quite literally a tour van) for the Best Things in Life are FREE Tour coming in January '09.
Fulton Read is one of those bands that wants it all- your attention, your respect, your mind and maybe your heart- with the hope that you will realize those timeless moments that music brings are priceless. This FREE spirit reaches back to their early years when they sang, "How the music made us feel, its worth nothing they can steal." Now full circle, Fulton Read has embraced its childhood values; any music fan can agree- the Best Things in Life are FREE.
