Roy Jay from Florida Orlando

Artist History

Roy Jay’s classical Americana music is a union of sophisticated instrumental and straight-forward sentiment. His debut album, “Lucky Guy” is a contemporary conversation with contrasting points of view. “Buffetesque" influences permeate light, relaxing, escapist tunes, such “Mungo Jerry,” and the title track, “Lucky Guy.” The fantasy continues with the funky and imaginative “Subway Ride.” But before the listener gets to far from thought, Jay’s reflective “Time’s Page” is there to remind us there’s more to life than suntan oil and celestial odysseys, and shows a definite Dylan derivation. The triumphant “California Grey” assures us there are better days ahead, in contrast to the angst outlined in “In and Out of Dreams,” and “Waiting on Time.” Jay re-inflates the fun with the farcical, “Prettiest Girl in Wal-Mart,” and the improbable, but undeniably whimsical “Working Burger Blues”. Overhearing this conversation, there’s only one response any eavesdropper would give to this upcoming artist: “Keep talking.”

"Lucky Guy" by Roy Jay (Rock Artist from Florida(FL))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Roy Jay with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Lucky Guy"

Who said you can’t judge a book or CD by its cover? Roy Jay’s debut album “Lucky Guy” embodies the relaxed beach tone feeling depicted in his cover artwork. There are twists on this traditional upbeat folk music throughout this disc with tracks like “In and Out of Dreams” where hand-percussion and acoustic guitar are complimented by harmonious background vocals with sing along style. Although mostly leaning towards lighter atmospheres, “Time’s Page,” takes a ballad approach where subtlety and style come into play nicely. The musicianship is sophisticated and mature, but Jay doesn’t take himself too seriously during “Prettiest Girl in Wal-Mart” with a comical trip to the super-store. Get out your sun block as “Lucky Guy” is Americana wrapped up in a beach towel and ready to hit the sand.
