Raquy and the Cavemen from New York New York City

Artist History

Raquy and the Cavemen of Brooklyn, NY, bring traditional Middle Eastern music and modern drumming to a heady peak. Raquy has travelled to many distant countries including those in the Middle East, Egypt and India, where she has experienced and absorbed vast amounts of musical culture. She uses all this knowledge to bring an amazing act to the stage.Raquy Danzinger performs with the Dumbek (Arabic hand drum) and the Iranian Kamanche, which is much like a violin.

Raquy and the Cavemen allow the listener to experience the musical cultures from The Middle East and Egypt and fuse them with Liron Peled's hard rock drumming background. The name Cavemen is appropriate due to the rawness of the beats, and there is also a timeless property to the music that makes it impossible to dislike. The whole experience of the music takes you on a journey to the roots of Middle Eastern drumming and as soon as that kemenche starts flowing the trip goes deeper. Its sound is like a close stare into the eyes and soul of the Middle Eastern culture that lives inside the music. Raquy brings forth the experience of an ancient culture straight to the stage for everyone to reflect, react and rotate to.

The love that each band member has for their instrument is especially evident when they are all on stage. They move fluidly to the enchanted drumming and mystical kemenche. Find one of their shows and be enriched, encouraged and energized.

They have released 5 CD's: "DUST" ;(2003), "Jordan" (2005), "'Naked' - 12 Middle Eastern Drum Solos" ;(2007), "Mischief" ;(2008) and "Bewitched" ;(2009).
Their music has recieved worldwide radio airplay and been used in many movie soundtracks, dance videos and live theatre and dance performances.

They have appeared at Lollapalooza, Central Park Summerstage, FloydFest and PASIC among others. They are performing regularly in the US with occasional tours abroad.

Raquy and the Cavemen also give workshops and master classes in Middle-Eastern drumming.

"Bewitched" Reviewed by RadioIndy.com!
POSTED BY: momof5pacs POSTED ON: 22 Oct 2009 06:32 PM

Raquy Danzinger has traveled the world and brought back with her the knowledge and skill to compose music with Middle Eastern and Egyptian tonality. “Bewitched,” the latest release from Raquy and the Cavemen is a brilliant collection of these cultures and is filled with well crafted songs. This album features Dumbek (Arabic hand drum) and the Iranian Kamanche (an instrument comparable to the violin) creating traditional Middle Eastern music. The tone is very intense throughout the entire album. The Kamanche wails hauntingly over beaten drums on tracks like "Axarai" and the title track "Bewitched." Tracks such as "Metal" feature some virtuoso style drum rhythms and should not be missed. While this is sure to be a great live show, don’t miss an opportunity to listen to "Bewitched" as it is an album well worth hearing as well.
