Megan Chaskey creates her life as a musician, poet, yoga teacher and healing practitioner. Born in New Mexico into an artistic and musical family, she has lived in California, England and now Long Island, New York. Her diverse education took her to Bennington where she studied choreography, writing, and innovative music in that daringly upbeat college setting, and to England to pursue poetry. Following the threads of her creative curiosity, she continually explores various styles: classical, jazz, folk and improvisational music, including the tonalities of traditional instrumental music from various cultures, using her voice and her primary instrument, the flute. Passionate about musical collaboration, she loves to co-create soundscapes of sacred sound with other innovative musicians, including those featured on both her new CD albums. Her experience in yoga and chanting meditation practice brings the sacred tradition to her music while her poetic sensibility adds a unique creative style that takes off in a new direction from other current sacred music. Her voice carries the depth of her spiritual practice and her love of lyrical melody.

Megan Chaskey’s commitment to the healing and regenerative powers of music and prayer imbue her latest CD, “Golden Bowl Of Naam,” with the kind of deep spirituality one can only find within. With the backing of natural, acoustic instrumentation (from piano to flute to percussion instruments, and more), Chaskey’s improvised vocal melodies, intoned in ancient mantras and sacred texts, create New Age soundscapes that are both relaxing and harmonically rich. For instance, on the 30-minute tone poem-like, “Ra Ma Da Sa II,” Chaskey’s solemn recorder explores melody over a traditional drone, creating an Eastern-like ambience that’s reflective and calming, and yet no less inspiring. Over 70 minutes in length, Megan Chaskey’s 4-track “Golden Bowl Of Naam” CD is the perfect accompaniment to a yoga session, a meditative reverie, or to provide musical channels for communion with nature’s most elusive impulses.
