What makes "The Song Begins..." such a great CD of American show tune-inspired music is the realization Casey Erin Clark had as much fun recording it as we do listening to it. With a voice redolent of the Broadway vernacular, it should come as no surprise that she is working in theater in New York, even starring in a few Off-Broadway shows. Some tracks are even showcases of brand new songs from rising composers. On the CD-opener, "Real New Yorker Now," Clark blows you away with her strong, pitch perfect voice. "Murder! He Says" is another vocal highlight, a terrific jazz trio number with bounce and melody. But what's most important is staying passionate and entertaining, and that is really what Casey Erin Clark’s "The Song Begins..." CD accomplishes.
