» Captain O'Kane

Captain O’ Kane by Turlough O’ Carolan (1670-1738) is not originally for mandolin but for celtic harp. I perform this piece on baroque mandolino because of the date of the O’Carolan’s work, which was around the same time of the popularity for the baroque mandolino in other parts of the world. The piece was composed for Captain O'Kane or O'Cahan, also known as “Slasher O’ Kane”, who was from Antrim, Ireland. Although not customary to Irish music, I perform this work similar to other pieces from the 18th century; improvising & ornamenting repeated sections.
