Artist History

Although Denny's been mixing it up in the music world for a while now he didn't start writing in earnest (hee hee) til 1996 with a  song placement in "Friends" "One With the Tiny T Shirt", through a Music Library CD called "Hard Road" Abaco Music/Boosey & Hawkes UK. Now Denny's worked for about a dozen libraries, and Publishers and has a very active carreer in placing songs for TV, Movies, and Production Music in general. Placements in shows like  "Judging Amy", "Road Rules", "Real World" MTV, "Simple Life #2", Fox's "Always Sunny In Philadelphia", "Blue Crush" Movie, 5 songs placed this past winter in NBC's "Friday Night Lights" DVD edition, Evergreen DVD, and a new National Lampoon DVD Movie "Bag Boy". In 2007 he wrote a "Delta Blues" CD for UK's Abaco Records, with a new one on the way an Americana CD due out by March 1st 2009, also on Abaco a part of Boosey & Hawkes UK.

Background

Denny grew up musically in Cleveland Ohio in the early 70's, where he recalls hanging out in Jazz Clubs, like the Smiling Dog Saloon, where he caught Les McCann, Weather Report, Herbie Hancock,

Freddie King, there was a studio next door I worked at, so I'd slip in all the time and catch these cats what an education. Though he never formally played in Jazz bands early on, it was his writing where he got to hang with the players. I got hired by Abaco to write 10 tunes for a Jazz CD in 1996 where I wrote all these jazz tunes hired horn players and it came out quite good and its still in use today as Music beds, Underscore for TV etc. His next foray was with the "Hot String Trio" an Acoustic Swing trio with Upright bassist Bill Watson, Denny Jones on Violin, and Denny handling Guitar, Writing and Vocals, sort of a cross between Stepan Grappelli and Dan Hicks. the later is for sale on itunes. I live near the college town of Bozeman MT, and a few years ago I met Alan Fauque, Saxophonist and Mike Gillan percusion, and pianist Bob Britten. that I started using them in my sessions, we recorded a whole bunch of jazz tunes that are with various Publishers out there. That's when i got the "Earnest Songbook" idea, I dedicated a whole year to just wring jazz tunes with vocals, Composing Jazz is usually done on piano, so I had to think piano in my head and try to play it accordingly.

The"Earnest Songbook", Delta Blues Cd's and many other's are on Itunes and Amazon for download

"Earnest Songbook" by Denny Earnest (Jazz Artist from Montana(MT))
POSTED BY: momof5pacs POSTED ON: 11 May 2009 07:07 PM

RadioIndy is pleased to present Denny Earnest with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Earnest Songbook"

In the past few years the “American Songbook” genre (a la Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin) has made quite a comeback with modern artists covering the old standards. Crooner Denny Earnest and his recently released CD “Earnest Songbook” performs this popular style with the same pizzazz as the legends that came before him. One of the tracks showing off his vocal expertise is “Let’s Give It a Whirl” in which we get to hear Earnest’s lounge influenced vocals and he even does a great Dean Martin imitation through a section of this number. Earnest’s jazz/blues influence is well represented in “Velvet Afternoon” in which it features complimenting alluring saxophone work. If you’re a “Ratpack” lover you will definitely want to add “Earnest Songbook” to your swinging collection man!
