Martin Folly and his CD single, “Yesterday (Reggae Version)” proves his creativity as an artist as he does his own Reggae spin on this classic Beatle’s song. The song kicks in with solid guitar chords, crisp cowbell, a strong bass line, and organ riffs that bring together a bouncy and lively beat. Folly’s voice is rootsy, rich, and deep which gives this song an interesting and melodic tonality of Jamaican style. As an added bonus, check out his other song, a remake of Thin Lizzy’s “The Boys Are Back In Town.” The tempo is slightly slower but Folly’s Reggae beat and percussive drums really make the scene. There is also a terrific guitar solo swirling around syncopated rhythms giving a vibe of energy and enthusiasm. Fans of Reggae music will thoroughly appreciate these wonderful refreshing remakes.

“Book of Life” is an outstanding reggae album with elements of funk, rock, ska, and pop from French artist Martin Folly. Folly has created an album full of twists, turns, and talent. He appears to have a firm grasp on a variety of world genres and uniquely blends them together, creating a very original sound. Folly’s vocal performance, blended with the array of genres he borrows from, puts him in the same musical vein as Wyclef Jean, Bob Marley & the Wailers, and Johnny Clegg. “Book of Life” delivers with its rhythmic arrangements and positive, inspiring, and catchy lyrics. The production quality of the album is also quite good, with nothing holding the listener back from the full experience of Folly’s performance. “People Don’t Forget to Remember” opens the album up with a radio-ready upbeat reggae ska number, horns included. The track has a nice melody and a catchy chorus about dropping our evil ways. “Little Big Man” shows Folly’s talent as a guitarist with a great picking progression as he sings about growing up and aspirations with a "just do it" attitude. “Nobody Knows My Name” is a rock song with nice harmonica and bass work that will leave you smiling. “Book of Life” is an unforgettable album with a positive outlook on life from a talented multi-instrumentalist. Fans of reggae fused with diverse world genres, should certainly give this excellent a listen.
