Roymackonkey are one of the most powerful and exciting musical acts to come out of Australia’s mysterious and magical tropical North. Hailing from the regional bubbling cauldron of talent that is the Northern Territory comes this enigmatic four piece whose trademark sounds feature rich and imposing vocals, volcanic yet intelligent guitar, and multi dimensional bass. The band consists of vocalist and frontman John Coulehan, guitarist Darryl Barba, drummer Fletcher Bowman and Bass Player Brian Mcleod.
Roymackonkey have been honing and refining their craft as a band for over ten years and it certainly shows. Their music is articulate, intelligent, powerful and primal. Over the years they have supported a slew of high profile acts, both domestic and international, including Rollins Band, Regurgitator,You Am I, The Cruel Sea, The Living End, Grinspoon, Painters and Dockers, Bodyjar, the Superjesus, 28 Days, Screaming Jets, Powderfinger, Magic Dirt, Hilltop Hoods, Gyroscope and on one very memorable occasion 10 years ago, the late great Slim Dusty. In July of 2008, they also supported the almighty Wolfmother to an 8000 strong crowd at the V8 Supercar concert at Hidden Valley Darwin racetrack.
In 2008, Roymackonkey were selected for inclusion in Foghorn Records compilation Grow Your Own Upload 2 and their track The Fear, was one of the most popular downloads from that release on Itunes.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Roymackonkey with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Cassandra Never Lies"
Aussie band Roymackonkey delivers solid, ‘90s era rock with their newest effort “Cassandra Never Lies.” After spending the summer touring the “land down under” with Wolfmother, it seems like this band is ready to spread their sound overseas and beyond. Their sound is sort of dated, but in a good way that reminds listeners of bands like Gin Blossoms or Nirvana. “The Fear” evokes that early ‘90s feel more than any other song on this album and has a nice R.E.M quality to it. The groove of “Chain Letter” is very solid and has that ‘hit single’ vibe to it. If you are looking to reminisce with the Seattle sound you used to love but want something fresh, as opposed to hunting down your old Soundgarden albums, then definitely take a listen to Roymackonkey’s “Cassandra Never Lies.” -Shaun H. and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team |
