Skip Walker is a drummer, songwriter, producer and music educator who prides himself on embracing all musical genres. Starting out as a musical child prodigy in his home state of North Carolina, Skip journeyed to New York City at the age of Seventeen and began cutting his teeth in funk music after being recruited to hold down the drum chair for the legendary funk group “The Fatback Band.”
After touring Europe extensively with “Fatback” Skip moved on to study music at the prestigious Berklee College of Music where he won the Leonard Feather Scholarship Award. Skip has released his first CD as a band leader entitled “Funky Café” with his band “Macrorhythm” which features some of the best jazz/funk musicians in the country.

“Funky Cafe,” is the recently released Jazz CD by the fantastic group, Skip Walker & Macrorhythm. This superb album is powered by smooth Jazz interwoven with body rocking funky grooves. The songs are fresh and well crafted and impresses with its soulful instrumentation. Opening up the album, the title track, “Funky Cafe,” draws you into a finely tuned song that progresses with tight instrumental precision as this song carries a fun, upbeat tempo. The song, “Mama’s Heaven,” takes it down a notch to a slower Jazz form and has a sweet melodic melody that melts the heart and soul. “To Be Happy” and “The Murch” are songs that feature spoken words with thought provoking tonality which mingles gracefully around the smooth grooves of the stylish instrumentation. If you like great Jazz music that has soulful beats then the album, “Funky Cafe,” is just what you need to hear.
