Artist History

The Boston based 5-piece, Superbug, resurrects an era of hard rock when innovation, well-crafted solos, and musicianship dominated in the genre. Vinny Cirigliano (vocals), Steve Marchena (guitar), Chris Urban (bass), Kevin Hammer (keyboards), and Tony Porter (drums) comprise one of the few current bands that carries the torch passed on by Hendrix, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin to the modern era and beyond!

Superbug’s formation in January 2009 was a whirlwind since a US tour had been booked to start in less than 6 months from the first jam. The band went into high gear to write, record, and release a 7-song EP, The Buzzzzz, so that they’d have songs to play and promote on tour. Although this series of events occurred opposite the norm, it provided Superbug with a quick fan base and momentum to keep refining their sound.

After 7 months of gigging and writing new tunes, Superbug enlisted the talents of keyboardist, Kevin Hammer. With Kevin, the band found a more diverse sound palette to draw from and started producing the first 6 tracks featured on the new release, Closer to the Brain.

Superbug plans to release a fresh 2-song single prior to their tour of the US and Canada June 2011!!!!

The talented group, Superbug, releases another outstanding Hard Rock CD, “Closer to the Brain.” These artistic musicians take their talents and weave a collection of fantastic Rock songs with an appealing style, which is sometimes reminiscent of the ‘80’s, but with a modern touch. They take their influences from bands such as Pink Floyd to Rage Against the Machine to compose these terrific songs. The title track, “Closer to the Brain” has a superb keyboard solo (which is something not often heard today) and a great groove rhythmically and vocally. Hold onto your seats as you hear the song, “Dirty Electricity,” as this song has searing guitar licks, gritty vocals, and a tight drummer who keeps the beat flowing in double time. The last track, “Cake,” has a mellower tone but still maintains the enticing sound this tight knit group has to offer. If you are a fan of Rock music then, “Closer to the Brain” is an album you will really enjoy.
